Plastics and composites change the protection equation.

Passenger vehicle appearance protection programs are engineered for painted metal: steel and aluminum panels covered with a primer, base coat, and clear coat. Powersports vehicles are different: ATVs and UTVs use heavy polypropylene and ABS plastic body panels, motorcycles have a mix of painted metal and plastic fairings, snowmobiles use composite hoods and running boards, and PWC are molded fiberglass and polyethylene throughout.
